Your Harvok® caravan is equipped with a Tow Secure TS2000 emergency breakaway system. This is a critical safety feature designed to automatically activate the trailer brakes if the caravan becomes detached from the towing vehicle while in motion.
Key Function:
The Tow Secure system applies full braking power to the caravan if the breakaway pin is pulled — helping prevent uncontrolled movement and potential accidents.
Power Supply and Operation
- The Tow Secure unit is powered by your caravan’s house (lithium) battery, not by the tow vehicle.
- The caravan’s main power system must be switched on for the breakaway unit to function properly.
- The system draws power through a dedicated wiring loom connected directly to the caravan battery via a 2-pin connector.
What You Must Do Before Every Trip
- Turn on the caravan’s power system at the control panel.
- Inspect the breakaway monitor, either on the control unit (usually in the tunnel boot) or the wireless remote in your car (depending on configuration).
- Check battery status. The system will not function if the battery is depleted.
- Ensure the breakaway pin is securely attached to the tow vehicle via the safety cable.
Installation Overview (For Your Auto Electrician or Dealer)
The following technical information is provided to assist professional installers and support staff. Installation should only be carried out by qualified professionals.
Power Source Wiring (2-pin battery input):
- Red: +12V from caravan battery (positive)
- Black: Negative (earth)
Control Module Wiring (6-pin connector):
- Black: +12V from tow vehicle ignition (used to activate the remote monitor)
- White: Ground (earth)
- Red: +12V to trailer stop lights
- Blue: +12V to electric brakes
- Orange (2x): Connect to breakaway switch mounted on A-frame
Mounting Guidance:
- The control module must be mounted in a dry, protected location. It is not waterproof and water damage is not covered by warranty.
- If exposed mounting is unavoidable, a waterproof rain cover is strongly recommended.
- The breakaway switch must be mounted to the front A-frame, close to the coupling, to ensure proper function if separation occurs.
Post-Installation Test
After installation, the Tow Secure system must be tested to confirm correct operation:
- Arm the system and check the battery level via the monitor.
- Pull the breakaway pin (simulate trailer separation).
- Confirm that the caravan brakes are activated and the stop lights illuminate.
- Reinsert the pin and confirm the system resets.
Regular testing is recommended every few months and before each trip to ensure safety compliance.
Legal Requirements (NSW & Other States)
- In NSW, real-time monitoring of the breakaway battery system from inside the tow vehicle is legally required.
- The Tow Secure TS2000 system complies with this regulation when installed with an in-car display.
