Charging via Shore Power (Using the Inverter/Charger)

Overview
Charging from shore power is the fastest and most reliable way to top up your caravan’s battery. This method is ideal when parked at a powered campsite or at home with access to a 15Amp power outlet.

How It Works

Your caravan uses a device called an inverter/charger (specifically, the Victron MultiPlus-II 48/3000 model) to manage the power flow. When shore power is connected:

  • The inverter automatically switches into charging mode.
  • It delivers up to 30 Amps at 48V, allowing a quick and effective battery recharge.
  • All 240V appliances in the caravan can also operate simultaneously via shore power.

How to Charge

  1. Locate the 15Amp inlet on the driver’s side of the caravan.
  2. Use a 15Amp rated extension lead to connect to a shore power socket (campground or home).
  3. Once plugged in, the inverter will automatically activate and start charging the lithium battery bank.
  4. You do not need to manually turn on the inverter; it will detect shore power and operate accordingly.
  5. You can monitor charge status via your control panel (e.g. touch screen or Victron monitor).

Safety & Best Practice

  • Always ensure your extension cord and socket are 15Amp rated.
  • Do not use domestic 10Amp extension leads unless properly adapted and protected.
  • Avoid overloading the power circuit with additional external appliances.
