Hitching Up Your Caravan
- Preparation:
- Remove the tow pin cover.
- Clean and lightly grease the tow pin and universal coupling surface.
- Set to Unlock:
- Push down the red lock button and slide back the locking plate.
- Ensure the pin port is clear (unlocked position).
- Couple Up:
- Raise your caravan’s jockey wheel so the DO35 coupling sits above the tow pin.
- Lower the coupling onto the tow pin.
- Push the red lock button again to lock the mechanism.
- Confirm Locking:
- The pin must be fully seated and visible through the port.
- Install the Check-Lock Dust Cap (you’ll hear an audible “snap”).
Safety Reminders:
- Never put your hands near the coupling mechanism while hitching.
- Always connect safety chains before moving.
- Do not use the hitch for recovery purposes.
- The drawbar and coupling must be mounted flat. Welding is strictly not permitted.
Maintenance Tips:
- Lightly grease the tow pin and internal surfaces regularly.
- Lubricate grease nipples with lithium-based grease every 10,000 km or 12 months.
- Replace worn tow pin O-rings (standard BS115 size).
- Clean debris if the lock doesn’t operate smoothly.
- Inspect spindle bushes and yoke for excessive wear.
Compatibility with Weight Distribution Hitches:
- DO35 can be used with WDH systems, as long as coupling articulation is not restricted.
- Use approved Cruisemaster WDH adaptors for Hayman Reese systems.
